2010 State Tournament Returns to Morey Courts!
Once again, the West Michigan Home School Athletic Association is hosting the Michigan Home School Basketball Tournament. The 2010 event will again be held at The Morey Courts Recreation Center in Mount Pleasant on Friday, Februrary 26 and Saturday, February 27. The championship games will be held on Saturday, March 6 at Lansing Christian School.
The Morey Courts Rec Center features eight full size basketball courts in a single room. This will allow for more than 80 games to be played in just two days in a single building. The seating capacity is also much improved over last season's tournament. For a map to the gym, visit our gym maps page using the tab above.
In order to participate in the tournament, each team must register by January 31, 2010. Additionally, each player must fill out a waiver form that is required by Morey Courts. Click here to download the tournament information, regsitration forms and waiver forms required.
The Home School Building: A Blessing
As home schoolers, we are truly blessed to live in one of the best places in the world to educate our children as we see fit. One huge factor in that assessment is our access to the Home School Building. Through the years, the HSB has hosted tutoring classes, soccer practices, volleyball games marching band, orchestras and, of course, basketball games and practices. It is difficult to imagine how different the WMHSAA basketball league would be without the HSB for meetings, practices and games.
Of course, our use of the HSB comes with some strings.
First, we do pay for the use of the basketball courts. That means that our rented usage period begins thirty minutes before tip-off of a game. If you happen to arrive earlier than that, please wait outside of the building.
Also, we are responsible for set up and take down. After games are complete for the day, bleachers go against the west wall, chairs need to be stacked on carts and moved to the storage room attached to the northwest wall and time clocks and possession arrows need to be put back into the audio/visual room.
Additionally, we are responsible for cleaning up after ourselves. The home team must sweep floor, pick up trash, take trash bags to dumpster (note trash vs cardboard dumpster), put new trash bags into trash containers in the gym and the bathrooms.
Finally, we should always make sure that guests are not roaming halls unsupervised.
If you notice anything that is in need of repair or attention from the building staff, please contact HSB office the next business day at (616)532-9422 or email them at office@homeschoolbuilding.org.
Thank you for your assistance!
